The villages, which vanished in connection with the construction of the water
Ruské
This is an extinct village. It was established in 1567. The previous owner was the lordship of Humenné, later other families. In the village the following authentic objects were saved: municipal cemetery, the chapel (it stands in place where an authentic church from 1789 was built), a millitary cemetery from World War I and three houses. There is a wayside cross from 1955 in the centre of the village near the cemetery. From the end of the village leads a way to the Ruské sedlo (Russian gap). It is called Porta Russica and comes from 1861. There is a monument to the liberators (Pamätník Osloboditeľom) under the Russian gap.
Smolník
It is an extinct village. It was established in 1568. The previous owner was the lordship of Humenné, later other families. In the village the following objects were saved: municipal cemetery and cemetery from World War I. In the place where an initial church from 1898 stood, is wooden chapel now.
Veľká Poľana
It is an extinct village. It was established in 1493. In the village the following authentic objects were saved: municipal cemetery, one authentic house and a monument- rotunda to killed soldiers from World War I on the millitary cemetery. Further it is the ruins of the church from 1784. It fell into disrepair in 1915. Near the village is wayside cross from 1853. Further, there is a millitary cemetery on Zadný Hodošík (825 m above sea level). There are soldiers, who were killed in the World War I, buried. This is the highest situated cemetery in Slovakia. Veľká Poľana is the birth-place of national artist Orest Dubay (1909).
Zvala
It is an extinct village. It was established in 1543. In the village the municipal cemetery and one family house were saved. There is a chapel in the place of the previous church from 1795.
Ostružnica
This is an extinct village. It was established in 1585. In the village the following authentic objects were saved: municipal cemetery and millitary cemetery from World War I. There are 82 soldiers, who were killed in World War I, buried. There are the ruins of the church from 1806 in the village. A valuable holographic book “Ostružické evanielium” from 1492 comes from this church.
Dara
The brick Orthodox temple from 1956 was saved from aborigine village. It was built in the Old Russian historic style after the fashion of wooden churches from 1746. In the villagethe following authentic objects were saved: municipal cemetery and millitary cemetery of soldiers, who were killed in World War I.
Starina
The authentic village lay under today's water level. The following objects were saved from initial village: the monument to soldiers killed in World War I (in bight near Darnov), the monument to killed sappers from World War II, under the dike. Under the mountain Magura there is a spring of mineral water. Above the water reservoir Starina there is a scenic viewpoint.
Extinct villages:
Smrekovica
This is an extinct village. It was established in 1612. It is located in the valley of stream Plašský potok. It terminated after 1728. Near the previous village is a waterfall Oriničova skala.
